Lights of Hope fireworks return to downtown Vancouver for 2017

An annual tradition at the main entrance of St. Paul’s Hospital in downtown Vancouver will be particularly special this upcoming Christmas season as it will be celebrating its 20th anniversary.

The Lights of Hope fundraising campaign generates millions of dollars each year for the hospital’s most immediate patient care and equipment needs.

And every year, the hospital invites the community to gather outside the hospital for an event that celebrates the campaign’s achievements.

The 2017 celebration, featuring fireworks and the launch of the iconic lighting display, is scheduled for Thursday, November 16 between 6 pm and 8 pm.

The fireworks last for about five minutes and are launched from the rooftop of the hospital, and the light display consists of 200 illuminated stars and over 100,000 bright lights.

Each back-lit star is dedicated to the campaign’s largest donors, whether it be an individual or company.

In addition to the main attractions, there will also be food trucks, hot chocolate, and choir performances.

If you miss the celebration night, there will be an extended opportunity to see the light display as it will remain lit every night – from dusk until dawn – for several weeks through the holidays, right up until January 8, 2018.

Over $30 million has been raised since the campaign began in 1998.
