Lights of Hope at St. Paul's Hospital kicks off with fireworks (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)
Thousands of people gathered outside St. Paul’s Hospital on Burrard Street yesterday evening to watch the fireworks display marking the start of this year’s Lights of Hope display.
The colourful display is now in its 16th year as part of an effort to support the hospital’s most pressing patient care and equipment needs. Back-lit stars are scattered on the display to recognize donations by individuals and companies.
Lights of Hope has raised tens of millions for St. Paul’s Hospital to date, and this year’s campaign has a goal of exceeding last year’s amount by raising $2.5-million.
It took many weeks for volunteers to set-up the display, but it will only cost $65 to turn on the display each night, in large part to the use of LED bulbs for 60 per cent of the lights.
The spectacular lights will be lit daily from dusk to dawn until January 12, 2015.
