FEATURED EVENTS IN VANCOUVER
A Future for Memory: Art and Life After the Great East Japan Earthquake, February 11 to September 5, 2021
Vancouver’s UBC Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is the inaugural stop on breakout artist Lewis Capaldi’s recently-announced 2020 North American headline tour.
The Scottish artist comes to Vancouver on July 17, hot on the heels of a sold-out 2019 tour.
The UK and Ireland legs of his 2020 tour sold out in seconds, making him the first artist in history to sell out arenas prior to the release of a debut album, a feat certified by the Guinness Book of Records.
Capaldi’s newest single, “Before You Go,” is one of three new songs on the album Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent Extended Edition. “Before You Go” topped the UK Singles and Irish Singles charts and has been streamed almost 250 million times on its way up the US charts.
The official video for the song is out now and, like the song, is a touching tribute to a life ended by suicide.
“Before You Go” follows Capaldi’s single “Someone You Loved,” the biggest song of 2019 according to UK charts. Streamed over a billion times globally on Spotify alone, it was certified Platinum or greater in 18 countries. It was nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Not only was “Someone You Loved” the biggest song, but the album it features on, Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, was the biggest album of 2019 in the UK.
The album showcases the full extent of Capaldi’s driving vocals. According to TIME, “Lewis Capaldi has the kind of deep, textured voice that you could listen to for hours.”
In addition to his own tour, Capaldi will join as a special guest on Niall Horan’s 2020 Nice To Meet Ya world tour.
Vancouver is the only Canadian stop on Capaldi’s headline tour, which takes him through the United States to Boston, Denver, Detroit, and Salt Lake City, among other spots.
