Let your pooch be ‘top dog’ at Vancouver Canadians game

Dec 19 2017, 7:18 pm

The Vancouver Canadians are letting man’s best friend enjoy a baseball game at the Nat with its 7th annual Dog Days of Summer promotion.

For one game a season, the C’s allow dogs inside Nat Bailey Stadium, and make your four-legged feel like a ‘top dog’ with special giveaways, watering stations and a dedicated on-site team.

This year the team is hosting the Hillsboro Hops at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.

All dogs must be on a leash and be up to date on vaccinations.  The first 200 people with dogs get a $5 gift certificate from Bosley’s by Pet Valu.  Having gone to this evening with my own dog, I’d suggest owners should leave hyper or overly food-motivated dogs at home, or it’s going to be a less enjoyable experience for you.

“Fans can register their pets at Scotiabank Field the night of the game, signing a waiver to help us prevent any ‘doggy-errors’ as we say,” the C’s Rob Fai told Vancity Buzz.  You can also download the waiver here.

Dog Daze is one of the team’s most popular games of the season, and in 2011 as many as 480 dogs were at the stadium. One superfan even created a custom Vancouver Canadians uniform that was custom-fit for her pooch.

Fai said the team created the annual event because of high fan demand.

“A lot of families have dogs that they can’t leave at home for a long period of time, and to be able to bring their pet, means that they can attend our game instead of passing it up,” said Fai.

“Perhaps it can be simply put by saying we thought it would be fun to have an owner and his or her dog sitting side-by-side sharing a hot dog and a ballgame.”
