One of B.C.’s most important cultural festivals is back for its seventh edition — and it’s a celebration you don’t want to miss.
Latin American Heritage Month Festival (LAHM) is bringing colour, culture, and contagious energy to Vancouver and Burnaby until Sunday, Nov. 2. Produced by Latincouver, the festival is a testament to the resilience and unity of the Latin community here in beautiful B.C.
Everyone is invited to partake in the celebrations — a lively mix of music, dance, art, and connection that celebrates shared traditions, resilience, and community growth.
While there’s plenty of fun happening throughout the duration of the festival, there are a few key events you won’t want to miss.
Honouring the Day of the Dead
The Day of the Dead will be celebrated at Granville Island on Saturday, Nov. 1, and Sunday, Nov. 2. Here, visitors can check out the popular Day of the Dead Market full of artisan vendors, along with art installations, performances, and workshops.
Keep the good times rolling on Nov. 1 at the Catrina Procession & Party. This fun-filled evening invites guests to walk through Granville Island in Catrina-inspired attire before enjoying a vibrant party full of music, art, food, and more.
Other events include a Colombian Traditional Dance workshop at the Latin Plaza Hub on Oct. 25 and a Rumba Roots Latin Party celebrating the Peruvian tradition of DĂa de la CanciĂłn Criolla at the Hungarian Cultural Society of Greater Vancouver on Oct. 31.
Non-stop fun
Of course, this is just a glimpse of what you can expect. With more than 30 programs, there’s no shortage of music, food, workshops, exhibitions, and traditions to experience at LAHM.
At a time when many major cultural festivals in Vancouver are being cancelled and reduced due to rising costs and limited funding, LAHM continues to grow and thrive — a true testament to community support and local pride.
The festival also supports a community donations campaign that helps sustain year-round cultural initiatives and local artist development across the province.
Check out the Latincouver website for a full schedule of workshops, exhibitions, events, parades, and live performances taking place throughout the month, and don’t miss out on the fantastic celebration.
