Police are at the scene of a stabbing that took place in the Brookswood area of Langley, after they say the suspect was able to escape.

Members of the Langley RCMP report receiving a call Thursday, shortly after midnight, after a male was reportedly stabbed in the 20300 blocks of 44th Avenue.

Upon arrival, law enforcement says they were able to identify the victim and several witnesses. Police have determined that the suspect in question and the victim are known to each other.

Fortunately, the injuries sustained by the victim are believed to be non-life-threatening.

The suspect, who is known to police, fled the scene on foot. Members of the Lower Mainland Police Dog Service were activated, however, were not able to locate him.

According to a police report, the information will be forwarded to the BC Prosecution Service and “an arrest warrant will be requested for the 28-year-old male alleged to be responsible.”

“The investigation is ongoing and efforts today will focus on locating this suspect,” said a police statement.

RCMP also note that due to the targeted nature of the incident, police feel that there is no danger to the public.
