Last Canucks game for the Green Men tonight

Dec 19 2017, 10:46 pm

Today’s regular season finale against the Edmonton Oilers will be the last Canucks game for the Green Men.

You can be forgiven if you’re asking yourself “didn’t they already retire?” It was back in November that the Green Men announced that this would be their last season. Since then they have made only a handful of appearances at Rogers Arena.

Force and Sully won’t be making an appearance in the playoffs, instead choosing to walk away from their spandex suits on their own terms.

After 5+ years of entertaining fans, it’s time.

And what a ride it has been.

The Green Men rose to prominence after a December 22, 2009 home game against the Nashville Predators. They clearly rattled Dave Scatchard while he served a penalty and the Green Men phenomenon was born.

Since then, Adam Forsythe and Ryan Sullivan have been on a wild ride complete with countless interviews, endorsement deals and photo ops with fans.

And if imitation is the highest form of flattery, then the Green Men should feel extremely flattered.

There are now Green Men kids…

Former Whitecaps captain Jay DeMerit has donned the green spandex for a game this season…

And even the Utica Comets have their own version of the Green Men…

But of course the Green Men can never be replaced. Forsythe and Sullivan are all grown up now and are both working in broadcasting, so you likely haven’t seen the end of them (they just won’t be wearing their green suits). But for their alter egos, Sully and Force, this is their last dance.
