A 15-year-old youth was found dead after a structure fire that occurred in the Township of Langley on Wednesday morning.

According to Langley RCMP, officers responded to a report of a structure fire near the 6500 block of 248 Street at around 6:57 a.m.

Langley RCMP shared that firefighters from the Township of Langley Fire Department arrived on scene to find that the structure was fully engulfed in flames.

“Tragically, a 15-year-old youth was located deceased inside the home,” Langley RCMP said.

“This is a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this incredibly difficult time,” said Sergeant Zynal Sharoom of the Langley RCMP in a statement.

While the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation, Langley RCMP doesn’t believe that criminality was a factor.

“The BC Coroners Service and fire investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the RCMP added.
