Man arrested after multiple hit-and-run crashes in Langley

Dec 21 2018, 4:55 am

An Abbotsford man will appear in court later today after being arrested in a stolen vehicle last night.

He is believed to be associated to several hit and run collisions in the North Langley / Willoughby / Abbotsford areas last night as well.

The first hit and run was reported just after 8 pm.

According to Langley RCMP, the suspect vehicle – a small pickup truck — had been stolen from Abbotsford earlier in the evening. It was found burning on Highway 1 in Abbotsford, at approximately 10:40 pm.

Minutes later, a Honda Accord was stolen and ultimately, this is the vehicle the suspect was arrested in.

The 24-year-old is currently bound by a recognizance requiring that he not be in a vehicle without the registered owner so he is allegedly in breach of this recognizance.

Several people remain in hospital today for treatment of their injuries, as a result of the incident, police said. They added that none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening, but that a dog was killed during the incident.

Langley Serious Crime Unit will work closely with investigators from Abbotsford Police Service to produce a comprehensive Report to Crown Counsel. Virtually every unit at Langley RCMP is assisting with some facet of the file.

Police are asking for motorists with dash cameras to review their footage from last night to see if they may have recorded some portion of the driving patterns of the pickup truck. Anyone with additional information that might assist with this investigation is asked to please call Langley RCMP at 604-532-3200.
