Langara Fashion Show: "AWEAR"

With a last minute invite to the LBA “AWEAR” charity fashion show, I was more then excited to accept the invitation.  What better way to spend a rainy Tuesday evening, then a fashion show that supports an amazing cause? With beverages and appetizers provided by donation, a silent auction, and live piano music to set the mood, the night was off to a great start. Arriving at the show I hadn’t had much time to do a background check on what the charity was about, or what the proceeds went to.  A host was more then happy to explain to me that all donations would be going towards “The Kettle Friendship Society”, a society that raises awareness for mental illness and the stigma associated with it.

“The Kettle Friendship’s” mission is to,

– Provide housing/employment and support services

– Raise awareness of mental issues and break down barriers

– Promoting the inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society

“The Kettle Friendship” also provides support and housing for those with mental issues.  It was awesome to see the Langara Business Association (LBA) come together as students and host an amazing evening from start to finish.  When the fashion show started, two amazing MC’s entertained us for the entire night.  With on point jokes and facts throughout the show it was an evening of laughs and fashion for all to enjoy.  Designers that were featured in the show were, Jen Cameron, Leah Mosoff, and Annching Wang. Stylists that were featured were Anya Melyukova, and Lauren Popadiuk, as well as make-up artists, Dee Wang, Maribel Avila, and Nikki Norton.

After the fashion show we were shown a slideshow that gave more of a look into what “The Kettle Friendship Society” did and how they help our society out.  As the night came to a close, and I had to duck out early, they let us know that dessert would be severed and the silent auction, and all proceeds would come to a close.  I was very impressed by the entire show, and amazed that LBA had done such an amazing job of hosting the event.  Without any glitches (that any of us noticed) the show went off without a hitch and was thoroughly enjoyed by all who attend.  Kudos to all who put in time and effort and I thank you for the hospitality and invite.  An fantastic night in my books, and an all for an incredible cause.
