Friends Ali Chang and Danielle Reyes dreamed of owning their own spa until the opportunity to purchase a space on West Broadway became available last Fall. Having studied at the Cornell University Hotel School and the Australian International Hotel School, Ali combined her hospitality business expertise with Danielle’s 13+ years of makeup and beauty industry knowledge to help women (and men) be pampered like royalty. The result is a diamond in the heart of the Mount Pleasant area: Lady Orchids Rejuvenating Day Spa.
Lady Orchids specializes in facials, makeup artistry, and other esthetics. Their signature facial is the “Posh Mount P” facial. This was inspired by Danielle Reyes’s childhood growing up in the area. The local hip hop community might remember Danielle as female rapper “MiZThANG,” who dominated the radio airwaves by freestyle rapping on Coop Radio’s “Morning Driveby” show, and on DJ Flipout and Jay Swing’s “The Worldwide Ride” on 96.1FM. While competing in freestyle competitions, recording an album, and performing, Danielle completed a Creative Writing Degree from Langara College and continued her makeup and sales training at several places, including The Body Shop, Origins at The Bay, Shoppers Drug Mart Beauty Boutique, and by learning first-hand from makeup artists after doing a few years of background work in the local film industry.
Lady Orchids Spa is the exclusive carrier of TLC Mineral Makeup (locally created by makeup artist to the stars, Tana Lynn Moldovanos), Oro Gold Cosmetics, and offers sessions with the WAVE machine, which uses Whole-body Advanced Vibration Exercise to give you a 1 hour workout in 15 minutes. Celebrities who use the WAVE program include Jessica Alba, Madonna, Sean “Diddy” Combs, JDiggz, Blake McGrath, and MMA trainer to Georges St. Pierre, Jonathan Chaimberg.
