Canucks fans received a bit of a surprise over the weekend when reports surfaced that they’re looking to trade Eddie Lack for a second round draft pick.
Making the news more surprising, and more dubious than if a reliable source such as Bob McKenzie or Elliotte Friedman uncovered it, was that it was reported by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun.
If Benning really has told NHL GMs he’d be willing to trade Lack for a second rounder, you’d have to think one of the big guns would’ve heard about it.
Friedman’s 30 Thoughts feature came out Sunday, and this sort of news about a goalie who lit the league on fire down the stretch would usually garner at least a mention (we’d hope it would take up two thoughts, if not five).
Either way, this report allows fans a chance to let Canucks management know how they’d feel about moving Lack.
Benning went against the popular choice with his signing of Ryan Miller last summer and extension of Luca Sbisa this year. Coming to press conferences armed with deflection tactics like “he’s good in scrums,” and “actually Sbisa didn’t have many giveaways,” you know he heard and felt the negative feedback.
The Canucks can’t bring all three netminders back next season, so they’ll have to move one before their hand is forced in October.
With that in mind, we ask you, the loyal Canucks fans, to tell Canucks management what you’d like to see done with the goalies.
