Koko Monk Chocolates has recently launched their first retail shop in Vancouver’s beautiful Kitsilano neighborhood. Koko Monk creates locally handmade, hand-painted and hand-tempered fine chocolates with unique and sophisticated flavours.
After nearly three years of success in the Vancouver Farmers Markets, owner and chocolatier Paul Dincer sought to find the ideal retail location to showcase his talents in a European style café.
The proudly Canadian Koko Monk features handmade chocolates, traditional hot chocolate and specialty coffees. Their chocolates are made from Belgian chocolate and 80 per cent raw ingredients that increase flavour intensity. Each small batch is unique and designed to please any mood from traditional to wild.
“Flavour is everything,” says Paul. “Chocolate has become predictable; I want my chocolates to wake up your taste buds.” Koko Monk’s chocolates are multidimensional, made from traditional flavours that are combined in surprising ways. “Complex and sophisticated experiences arise from these flavour fusions,” says Paul.
Paul found the perfect location for his vision in Kitsilano’s Yorkville neighbourhood. Koko Monk’s outdoor seating adds to the street’s European charm and the shop’s abundant natural lighting brightens up even the dullest of Vancouver days.
Customers are greeted with traditional Turkish warmth and hospitality–treated as if an honoured guest in Paul’s home. Upon arrival, Paul will offer a sample followed by advice to not chew the chocolate but to let it melt in your mouth. “My chocolates demand that you slow down to fully experience them,” says Paul. “They relieve the unbearable loneliness of eating fast food.” Guests may enjoy a spoonful of Paul’s latest filling or an introduction to someone new at the community table. The open kitchen allows customers to view chocolates being made.
