KKK recruitment flyers hurled at dozens of Abbotsford doorsteps: Police

Abbotsford Police are investigating after KKK literature was thrown onto residents’ doorsteps overnight.

Sealed plastic bags contained hateful flyers which listed Klan recruitment hotlines and included the headline ‘White Lives Do Matter,’ along with rice to make the bags heavier and easier to throw.

“It’s almost along a path where somebody either travelling on a bicycle or by foot or in a car could easily just launch these things probably from the street because of the weight of the bags.”

This, according to Constable Ian MacDonald, who says the first complaint came in around 1 a.m. Monday, but was far from the only one.

“It is concerning, I mean at the end of the day you’re talking about an individual or a group of individuals who are demonstrating their ignorance and spreading intolerance. Our investigator ended up finding 32 of these bags of these flyers.”

MacDonald says it’s a particular neighbourhood that’s been affected, but nearby communities in the Fraser Valley have also been hit.

“It looks like it’s the same individual or group of individuals, very, very similar in both Mission and Chilliwack… The people that received this stuff don’t want it, their phone call was to the police, not to any of the hotlines or recruitment that was found in the flyer trying to get people to join the KKK.”

MacDonald says while Abbotsford has seen hateful graffiti before, this kind of incident is a first.

Officers from Abbotsford, Mission and Chilliwack are joining forces to find who’s responsible, and urge anyone else who finds these items to contact Police.
