4 Kitsilano businesses to support this summer and beyond

Jul 14 2020, 4:46 pm

Vancouver businesses continue to navigate unchartered territory amid the COVID-19 crisis, and they need our support now more than ever.

Most brick-and-mortar stores and restaurants were forced to close their doors back in March when restrictions began to tighten. Since then, many have continued to serve the community by pivoting to offer new services.

With BC moving through its gradual reopening plan, restaurants and businesses are now able to safely serve customers in-person once again. We’ve rounded up four businesses in Kitsilano (with new safety protocols in place) to consider the next time you visit the neighbourhood.

Vancouver Dental Specialty Clinic

If you’ve been putting off visiting the dentist, now is the time to book an appointment for safe treatment. Located on West Broadway, Vancouver Dental Specialty Clinic is one of the only clinics of its kind in the Greater Vancouver Area to provide all dental treatments by various specialists under one roof. This includes advanced technologies in periodontics, prosthodontics, oral medicine, dental implants, oral and gum surgery, root canal therapy, and cosmetic dentistry.

The clinic closed its doors temporarily when COVID-19 hit to reduce transmissions and protect the safety of staff, patients, and the community. Following provincial government health recommendations, the clinic was able to reopen and employ infection control measures recommended by the World Health Organization, Canadian Dental Association, British Columbia Dental Association, College of Dental Surgeons of BC, and BC Centre for Disease Control.

Vancouver Dental Specialty Clinic is home to experts who are committed to working together as an interdisciplinary team; for example, each patient is assigned an individual room and will not be exposed to other patients. Their goal is to achieve the best results for patients in terms of maintaining and restoring oral health conditions. The clinic is now open for appointments Monday through Friday.

Address: 3488 West Broadway
Hours: 10 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday

Las Margaritas Restaurant

In 1994, Las Margaritas first opened its doors on West 4th Avenue. Since then, it has been serving up Mexican fare inspired by Southern California and the Baja State — homemade chips and salsa, tacos, burritos, and much more. In terms of drinks, the restaurant is renowned for having BC’s largest tequila collection and top-shelf margaritas.

When the pandemic hit, Las Margaritas closed to dine-in customers but stayed open for takeout and delivery. Today, visitors can enjoy fresh and flavourful food while dining inside the restaurant or on the spacious patio (voted one of the city’s best). Las Margaritas is adhering to all COVID-19-related guidelines and is also still offering takeout and delivery via DoorDash and SkipTheDishes, with brunch available from Friday to Sunday.

If dining at home works better, Las Margaritas has a new online Market with items available for contactless pickup.

Address: 1999 West 4th Avenue
Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 11:30 am to 10 pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 11 am to 11 pm
  • Sunday: 11 am to 10 pm

Leis de Buds

Indoor tropical plants and floral decor have grown in popularity over the past few months with everyone spending more time at home. On West 4th Avenue, Leis de Buds specializes in fresh flower bundles, arrangements, subscriptions, and gifts in a space called ‘The Plant.’ The floral business is passionate about sustainability and choosing only North American-grown plants and flowers, as well as educating the public about where flowers are sourced.

In early March, Leis de Buds closed its doors and had the unique opportunity to focus exclusively on the online aspect of the business. The team was repositioned with new jobs and built up the e-commerce business to keep the lights on. After this, a new retail team was hired and trained to safely set up the store for reopening, complying with COVID-19 guidelines.

Shoppers can now visit the Leis de Buds brick and mortar store, order for same-day delivery via DoorDash, or choose next-day delivery for orders placed directly through its website.

Address: 2202 West 4th Avenue
Hours: 10 am to 7 pm daily

Tera V

It’s hard not to crave comfort food during times like these, and Tera V checks all the boxes for vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free eats. The West Broadway spot has a menu packed with burgers, paninis, and plenty of sweet treats like smoothies and oat milk shakes. Right before the pandemic started, two friends with a passion for food and connecting with the community purchased Tera V.

Led by new business owners who quit their jobs at a globally-recognized coffee company, Tera V didn’t qualify for any government relief programs during COVID-19. In the face of uncertainty, the owners stayed positive and remained open for delivery and takeout orders while following new safety precautions. They extended their hours, delivered free food to frontline workers with the help of donors, and also got creative to launch a new menu and Dessert Directory shop.

Tera V’s enhanced menu is now available for limited dine-in. At-home delivery is available through Uber Eats, DoorDash, and Fantuan.

Address: 2961 West Broadway
Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 11 am to 11 pm
  • Friday and Saturday: 11 am to 12 am
  • Sunday: 11 am to 9 pm
