Temperatures are soaring in and around Metro Vancouver, but one of the city’s hottest destinations, Kitsilano Pool at Kits Beach, still doesn’t have an opening date.
In a recent exchange with the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, Daily Hive was informed that “the goal” is to have the pool opened again for the summer season.
Over the past couple of years, Kits Pool has gone through its fair share of trials and tribulations. Most recently, we learned that the pool would receive temporary repairs that would last a while before a potential new construction project.
We did learn a little bit more about the potential administrative procedures pool-goers will need to follow to visit.

“The pool is more than 50 years old and at its end-of-life phase,” the park board told Daily Hive.
“So the need for ongoing maintenance and potential repairs is always a consideration each year. We will keep the public informed if there are any changes to the anticipated opening date.”
Once the pool reopens, the same reservation system that has been in place in recent years will continue to be used. Reservations can be made up to three days in advance.
“While drop-ins are welcome at each session, we recommend reserving in advance to secure your preferred time.”
Vancouver’s beloved Kits Pool is nearing its end

Daily Hive
Last year, we learned from the City that Kits Pool is considered an “end-of-life asset.”
Following the January 2022 storm and king tide, which significantly damaged the seaside pool, the municipal government spent $3.5 million assessing the structure’s damage and performing repairs between 2022 and 2024. This included $3 million allocated in 2024 from the mid-term budget update to enable the pool’s mid-summer reopening.
In 2024, there were some questions about whether or not the pool would open at all. Let us rephrase: there were lots of questions.
In April 2024, we were told the pool would open in May. There was a delay in May, but we were informed that the pool would still open. Then, in June, we were told the pool wouldn’t open at all. Finally, in July again, we were told it would open. When it finally opened, many people expressed concerns about the reservation system.
Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions.
The pool finally opened to the public super late into the summer on August 7.
It remains to be seen how soon into the summer Kits Pool will reopen this year, but we’ve got our eyes on it for ya.
