When you put your pen to the paper at most gym membership desks, you often don’t understand what you’re signing up for.

If you’re looking for a membership but want to know if it works for you, then the YMCA of Greater Vancouver’s Kickstart Your Health introductory pass will let you find out for yourself. Individuals can buy one for $20 and families are able to get theirs for $50. To sign up, just drop by a YMCA membership centre. You can also click here for more information.

You’ll be relieved to find a gym membership that doesn’t lock you in, gives you access to the latest fitness classes, and is customizable to your own needs.

Here are just a few of the benefits you’ll receive at the YMCA, all in one pass.

New equipment

When you decide on a membership, you want to know that you’ll be working with fantastic fitness equipment. The YMCA is packed with state of the art weight machines, ellipticals, treadmills, rowers, recumbent bikes, and much more. Having access to such a wide range of equipment means it’s easier to break through those tough plateaus.

Drop-in classes

Membership gives you 10 guest passes per year for family and friends. Drop-in fitness classes are included in your membership and there are more than 90 classes weekly to choose from. These include yoga, pilates, bootcamp, Zumba, Aquafit, dance fitness, cycle, barre, and more. That’s a ton of value to have all in one pass. Classes vary by location, so check the schedule to find one near you.

Extra perks

If you’re looking to make a splash then sign up for this month’s free water safety assessments and classes. The YMCA of Greater Vancouver is offering the safety classes during June as part of its Splash Month promotion. Classes are 30 minutes long and free for adults along with children – no need to be a member to participate. Afterwards, you’ll get a skills assessment card for any lessons you might consider in the future. Also amazing for your aquatic fitness is each YMCA’s full length pool that’s available for lane swimming or working out in an aquafit class.

Convenience

Going away on vacation? You can hold your membership for up to four months at no charge. Locations are open 364 days a year and you’ll be able to use your pass at four YMCA locations across the Lower Mainland. Last but not least, hours vary by location but centres open early and close late.

Lots of space

If you’re looking to shoot some hoops or play some badminton then stop by the YMCA’s full size gymnasium to see what’s happening. Each facility offers something a little different but many have yoga studios, squash/racquetball courts, and dedicated spaces for families. You can also find meeting rooms, classrooms, a family development centre, a 6000 square foot outdoor rooftop playground, a gymnasium, and more.

Access for everyone

What’s cool about the YMCA is that it’s easier for everyone to reach their full potential. Many financial barriers have been lifted, which is especially important for individuals and families in Vancouver. Learn more about the Access Program online.
