“The pool had been scheduled to reopen on Jan. 19, following extensive upgrades to its roof,” the Park Board told Daily Hive. “However, after refilling the basin this week, the leak was detected, leading to this ongoing closure.
“It must remain closed until repairs are completed.”
The Park Board teams are inspecting the pool’s plumbing system to identify the source of the leak and determine repair options.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works to resolve the issue,” said the Park Board on social media. “We will share updates as soon as more information becomes available.”

Kerrisdale Community Centre
A phone call to the Kerrisdale Community Centre confirmed that all swimming lessons slated to start on Monday, Jan. 19, have been cancelled and fully refunded.
According to a staff member, there is no timeline for when lessons may be able to restart in the pool.
Several parents and residents voiced their frustration online after receiving phone calls from the City of Vancouver alerting them that the swimming lessons would not go ahead.
“Was so excited to start parent and baby swimming classes next week,” shared one parent. “I had the registration date marked in my calendar for a month to make sure we could get in, but I just got a call from the City to say that Kerrisdale pool is closed until further notice. They’re not transferring students and have no idea when they’re going to open again.
“I’m heartbroken since Vancouver swimming classes are hard to get into. I’m sure it’s also stressful on City staff, though, as they have to break the news to everyone.”
“I also got two of my kids registered for their first swim lessons, it was so hard to get. And now also received the cancellation phone call,” said another commenter.
“That really sucks, my wife and I were really looking forward to it finally being open,” shared another resident.
This is not the only recent pool closure that impacted local families and swimmers.
In November, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre in the city’s West End was temporarily closed when a small piece of concrete fell from the ceiling into one of the swim lanes.
