Kayla Grey says goodbye to TSN after 11 years at the network
A longtime staple at TSN is moving on.
Kayla Grey, who took on many roles but most notably as a Toronto Raptors sideline reporter during her 11-year stint at TSN, officially announced her departure from the network with a lengthy Substack post detailing her career.
In the post, Grey outlines her passion for the sports media industry and recounts her history at TSN. She wrote that she initially auditioned for the network in 2013 and was rejected, which Grey says was a pivotal learning experience that allowed her to grow into the sportscaster she is today.
“What an honour it has been to share some of the biggest moments in Canadian sports with you. I can’t wait to take you along for this next chapter in my life,” Grey wrote.

The 33-year-old sportscaster initially joined TSN back in 2015, where she worked as a radio producer for TSN 1050 on Raptors and Toronto Maple Leafs game days. She became a host for SportsCentre in 2018, becoming the first black woman to host a flagship sports highlight show in Canada.
Just a year later, in 2019, she joined TSN’s Raptors coverage as a sideline reporter on broadcasts.
“TSN has given me a lot of opportunities, but the one I’m most grateful for was the shot to prove seven-year-old me right,” Grey wrote. “As a kid, I went to my first professional basketball game with the West Scarborough Boys and Girls Club and said, ‘I’m going to cover that team one day.’ That team was the Toronto Raptors.
“Matt Devlin and Jack Armstrong: my hype men, therapists, gold standards, fun-havers, and teammates for life. What an honour to work, learn, and create TV magic with them all.”
In 2021, Grey would go on to host and co-executive produce “The Shift,” a show that combined sports with culture and digital trends. She alluded in her Substack post that she was able to end that show on her own terms.
“It’s beautiful and a miracle to think that in an industry as uncertain as ours, five years flew by and we get to close this chapter on our own terms,” Grey wrote. “I am forever indebted to ‘The Shift’ family and can’t thank them enough for always buying in, even when the future wasn’t clear.”
She even made headlines over the summer after winning $50,000 and a luxury vehicle at Drake’s annual Strong Women, Stronger Drinks event.
Most recently, Grey has been working as a sideline reporter for Prime Video’s WNBA coverage, having stepped into that role this past May.
