Vancouver-based company wants you to do more by driving less

If you drive a car in Vancouver, chances are that you’ve wasted many hours of your life stuck in traffic or waiting in line to get on the Lions Gate Bridge. For many of us, nothing beats travelling in our own vehicle, but there are all sorts of things we would rather be doing with our time than having our hands glued to the wheel. Kater, a Vancouver based tech company, is here to solve that problem.

Kater is a new service which provides vehicle owners with access to a network of tested, verified chauffeurs.

Users can book a driver to arrive at a location and have themselves driven to and from their chosen destination in their own vehicle. This eliminates the need for users to worry about driving, parking and other hassles that go along with vehicle usage without having to sacrifice the comfort and convenience of vehicle ownership. Users can also request that drivers perform simple errands like filling up gas or getting the car serviced.

Kater sees people using the service for everything from airport transportation to commuting to meetings and appointments, as well as ferrying them to and from events and evenings out (especially those which involve alcohol consumption).

When speaking about Kater’s slogan, “Do More”, Marketing Manager, Mandeep Khara, states that “It is meant to represent the value that Kater provides. With Kater, passengers can use their time in more productive ways than driving. On the other side, Kater drivers can earn extra money driving whenever they choose. With Kater, both groups are able to do more with their time”. It’s a win, win business model.

In addition, the competitive wages Kater drivers earn are often higher than those for other similar transportation apps. Combine that with the fact that Kater drivers do not have the same operating expenses like fuel and their own vehicle, and driving with Kater becomes a very attractive option for those looking to make some extra cash.

Since November, Kater has been in its pre-launch beta testing phase and it has successfully served over 125 rides to date. While currently only operating in Metro Vancouver, Kater has plans to expand to other cities like Seattle, Los Angeles and London in 2016.
