Japanese restaurant Kamei Royale, a downtown dining staple for over two decades that closed last December, is expected to re-open on Monday, June 27.
Kamei Royale, which is part of the Kamei group of restaurants (their sister restaurant Ebisu has three locations), is part of a local history in dining out that dates back to the early 1970s. Their claim to fame was introducing the “BC Roll” and other now-standard sushi dishes to the local lexicon.
Their new location at 1066 West Hastings will house inside seating for around 200 guests (a number confirmed by Taku Matsuda, a member of Kamei group’s management team, via phone), and continue to offer an extensive sake list as well as a wide variety of seafood. According to the restaurant’s Facebook page the team are also currently awaiting a permit to allow them to host karaoke nights again.
