Downtown Eats: Kamei

Although Kamei on Burrard has been around for ages and is close to my work, I rarely make my way over there. Well, last week, I finally did and was in for a pleasant surprise. Lots of sushi/sashimi boats available, and prices were quite reasonable.

Here is the Sushi/Sashimi Boat we ordered, I think it was around $15.50. A good value, with an Ebi Sunomono as an appetizer, then 3 pieces each of tuna, salmon BC roll, Dynamite Roll and 2 pieces of California Roll. You also get 1 piece each of salmon and tuna nigiri, plus fruits, namely the orange slice and half a strawberry.

We also got their Ebi Gyoza, it’s one of the few places that serve a whole prawn per gyoza. Pan fried until crispy but still juicy on the inside, so for $6.50, it was worth it in my mind.

The other thing I always order when I have Japanese is Ikura, absolutely love the stuff, and can’t get enough of it. So I ordered two pieces and they were alright, nothing exceptional. Little bubbles of saltiness, you either love it or you hate it. I also like tobiko but prefer the juiciness of the ikura much more. But it was a little pricey here, $6.50 for two. Had I known, I probably would have gotten another order of the gyozas instead.
