Justin Trudeau to meet with new BC Premier John Horgan in Ottawa on Tuesday

Justin Trudeau will meet with the new Premier of British Columbia, John Horgan, on Tuesday.

According to the PM’s latest itinerary, the pair will meet in the Prime Minister’s Office on Parliament Hill.

The meeting is expected to last about an hour, and they are then scheduled to give a joint press conference.

A point of contention between the two men is likely to be the controversial Kinder Morgan pipeline expansion through Burnaby.

Trudeau approved the expansion last year, but during the election campaign, the BC NDP pledged to stop the Kinder Morgan project from going ahead.

Horgan, who is leading a BC NDP minority government with the support of the BC Greens, was only sworn in last week. His party’s rise to power comes after 16 years of rule by the BC Liberals, and two months after an election which left BC with a hung parliament.

After the election, Trudeau said he stood by his approval of the Kinder Morgan project, despite any opposition from the next BC government.
