Julia Diakow joins Tacofino as Bar Manager

Something exciting is shaking at Tacofino in Gastown with the news that respected Vancouver bartender Julia Diakow has joined the team as Bar Manager.

Diakow has done stints at Reflections at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia, The New Oxford and Cuchillo, and is coming to the table with some creative and playful ideas for matching cocktails and spirits with Tacofino’s vibrant food.

Look for new drinks from Diakow, including:

  • Negroni Rosa (El Jimador Blanco, Orange and Strawberry-infused White Port, Aperol)
  • Gold Rush (Pisco Gobernador, Triple Sec, Lemon Juice, Grapefruit Syrup, Jaume Serra Cava)
  • Coronation Street (Beefeater Gin, Mezcal, Lemon Juice, Agave Nectar, Parsley)
  • Bermuda Triangle (Old Grand-Dad Bourbon, Gosling’s Dark Rum, Mezcal, Maple, Coffee and Cacao Bitters)

Diakow also has put a trio of tequila and mezcal Spirit Flights on the drinks list. They’ll be presented with a traditional Oaxacan spice called sal de gusano (sea salt, toasted and ground agave worms and dried chile costeño) and orange, served on a custom-designed handmade wooden paddle. The bartender says she is “thrilled” to be at Tacofino, and she has a lot of ideas for keeping the drinks fresh and fun.

Additionally, Tacofino has launched a new Happy Hour Menu, which is available Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Diners and imbibers will find classic cocktails and special beer selections or wine, all in the $5 to $8 range, along with well-priced share plates.
