Jon Stewart discusses Charleston shootings in monologue (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart discussed the Charleston shootings and racism in America in his latest monologue for his show “The Daily Show” – now it is making the rounds online.

The shootings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina left nine people dead who were there for Bible study. The victims ranged in age from 26 to 87.

All nine of the victims were black. The shooter was Dylann Storm Roof, a white man with a known history of anti-black views.

The somber speech was different than any Stewart had done before; there were no jokes, only a real, visceral talk about the oppression of black people in the Southern United States.

“What blows my mind is the disparity of response between when we think people that are foreign are going to kill us and us killing ourselves,” Stewart said during his monologue.

“[The media is] already using the nuanced language of lack of effort for this. This is a terrorist attack on the Emanuel Church in South Carolina, which is a symbol for the black community.”
