FEATURED ON THE DISHED GUIDE
The BC Giveaway Series is an initiative by BC Dairy Association (BCDA), in partnership with Daily Hive, to raise awareness of local food businesses — like ice cream makers — that have been hit hard by COVID-19.
A good cup of coffee can take your day from ordinary to extraordinary in just a few sips, and Vancouver’s JJ Bean Coffee Roasters understands this well.
In 1996, the coffee purveyor was established with a key objective in mind; to honour people through great coffee, food, spaces, and service. Since then, the family-owned and operated small-batch coffee roaster has opened 21 cafes here in Vancouver.
The coffee crafting process at JJ Bean is what keeps locals returning for their regular cup of joe. However you take your daily fix, every coffee is roasted for maximum freshness and flavour.
This alone is a reason to support your local JJ Bean, which is why we’re giving away $25 gift cards to be used at the roaster’s cafe locations across Metro Vancouver.
JJ Bean’s signature light roast coffee is all about balance and complexity, fostering a “drinkability” that you often don’t get with other blends. Therefore, it’s easy to drink a whole mug of coffee and then order a second round.
First, all coffees by JJ Bean are sample-roasted in a vintage Jabez-Burns four-barrel roaster at the Commercial Drive cafe location. From there, the coffee is production-roasted to order at JJ Bean Powell Street.
Using quality ingredients is important to the Vancouver coffee roaster, which is why it uses Avalon Local BC Milk in all of its milk-based drinks. That’s right, from the expertly textured milk in your latte to the cream you add to your Americano, JJ Bean only uses the good, local stuff.
But it’s not all just amazing coffee at JJ Bean, the roaster serves up some seriously scrumptious eats to complement the blends available on the menu.
Sweet treat aficionados have choices galore, with everything from classic croissants to mouthwatering cookies baked fresh each morning — at all cafe locations. If savoury snacks are more your vibe, the commissary bakery JJ Big Bend prepares all of the wraps and sandwiches you’ll find in-store.
In terms of suppliers, JJ Bean supports local by working with Rogers Flour, Anita’s Organic Mill, Two Rivers Specialty Meats, Frankly Fresh Salads Inc., and Glory Juice.
The COVID-19 crisis forced many local coffee shops to close temporarily this year. JJ Bean locations across Metro Vancouver have since reopened for takeout orders, safely serving our local communities while complying with strict new protocols.
