It’s safe to say Jasper Sloan Yip has a long and successful career in the music industry ahead of him.

This past Wednesday, July 17 the Vancouver alt-folk rocker hit the stage at the Media Club to a packed house full of fans & friends alike eager to help him celebrate the release of his Sophomore album ‘Foxtrot’.

From playing on a self-built backyard stage in 2007 to playing a packed to the rafters album release gig, it’s clear Yip has come far in short amount of time. Yip’s debut album ‘Everyday and All at Once’  charted on CBC Radio 3 garnering him attention throughout Canada and even saw his songs played on network television.

Yip was a top 20 finalist in the 2011 Peak Performance Project and most recently this past May a winner of 10,000 for Shore 104.3 FM’s Best of B.C. contest for his song ‘Show Your Teeth’. Upon seeing the singer/songwriter and his band perform live it became alarmingly clear that Yip’s wealth of success thus far in his career is well deserved.

You can’t help but sort of fall in love with Yip’s dreamy vocals and the striking cohesiveness and chemistry he shares with his band. The set was magnetic and engaging, despite having some minor technical difficulties at the beginning of the show, they came out on top.

Engaging the crowd at every opportunity, Yip had the whole room singing, clapping, dancing, and even invited everyone to his house for a raging party after the show. Flawless timing and smooth transitions between songs kept up the momentum of the crowd throughout the show.

After Yip and his band left the stage audience was not ready to go anywhere and broke out into a steady chant of ‘JASPER JASPER JASPER’ and he did not disappoint, finishing off the night with a stunning two song encore.
