Alternative rock band, Jane’s Addiction, has announced their Theatre of the Escapists Tour, with a stop in Vancouver on Friday, August 31, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre. The tour launched in February to a sold-out croud in St. Louis, Missouri.
Despite breaking up for the second time in 2004, the band reunited in 2008 and toured with Nine Inch Nails in 2009 on the successful NIN/JA tour. In 2010, Jane’s Addiction began work on some new material, and released their fourth studio album, The Great Escape Artist, in October 2011. Vocalist Perry Farrell describes the album as “a strange mixture of that post-punk Goth darkness that Jane’s had, with what’s going on today with groups like Muse and Radiohead,” after working with TV on the Radio’s Dave Sitek, bassist Chris Chaney, and producer Rich Costey (Muse, Radiohead). It’s a step forward for the band, but fans can still recognize the musical roots from their earlier work, with early members Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro, and Stephen Perkins still delivering the music.
Through ups, downs, and breakups, Jane’s Addiction has left an impact on the alternative music scene. At their height in 1991, Farrell created Lollapalooza, a music festival featuring a diverse array of alternative, indie, electro artists and more, that is still successful today.
