There is no shortage of Vancouver Whitecaps FC action coming up at BC Place.

Due to Vancouver’s role as a FIFA World Cup host city, Whitecaps FC won’t have access to BC Place for the months of May, June, and July. March and April are a different story, as the ‘Caps have a whopping seven home matches scheduled in the next seven weeks.

It begins with Concacaf Champions Cup action on Thursday, against Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC (7 p.m. kickoff) in the Round of 16.

This is the same tournament which Whitecaps FC nearly won last year, making it all the way to the final. The winner of the Concacaf Champions Cup not only claims the title of best club on the continent, but also earns a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The ‘Caps have been red-hot to start the season and have yet to lose a match. They’re 3-0 in MLS regular season play, outscoring opponents 8-1. But the task of winning this weekend just got harder.

James Rodriguez will be in the building on Sunday, when Whitecaps FC host Minnesota United FC. The Colombian soccer star let it slip recently that he’s planning to make his MLS debut in that match, against his former Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Müller.

“Next weekend, I play on Sunday… against the team of Müller,” he confirmed.

The match would mark the first time ever that two FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winners played in an MLS match. Müller won the award in 2010, when Germany finished third at the World Cup. Rodriguez won it in 2014, despite Colombia being knocked out in the World Cup quarter-final.

Rodriguez signed with Minnesota United FC last month, following a stint with Club León in Mexico. The 34-year-old has made multiple stops in his pro career, including six years with Real Madrid from 2014 to 2020.

The match, which kicks off at 1:30 p.m. at BC Place, is also the “Cherry Blossom Match.” It’s one of multiple themed matches Whitecaps FC have planned for this season.
