007 fans will be sure to check out this first of its kind event in Vancouver, a James Bond Film Festival. Actors come and go but Bond – like diamonds – goes on forever. His biennial escapades stretch back half a century, all the way to the Cuban Missile Crisis, and span nine US Presidents. Now you can relive all your favourite Bond moments and learn a few things from Canada’s foremost James Bond expert Murray Gillespie.
This 20-film retrospective is designed to showcase not only the changing face of Britain’s most famous secret agent, in all six of his incarnations from Sean Connery through to Daniel Craig, but also to suggest how Bond movies have changed and stayed the same as they mirror sometimes subtle shifts in attitudes towards sex, violence, nuclear weapons, terrorism, Communism, Capitalism, and, yes, good old/bad old hedonism.
There will also be an exhibition of vintage posters and Bond memorabilia courtesy of collector and 007 expert Murray Gillespie, who will be on hand to introduce many of the screenings.
