It’s the story that no Vancouver Canucks fan wants to think about.
Unfortunately, Jack Hughes has brought it to the forefront once again.
The younger brother of Vancouver Canucks defenceman Quinn Hughes spoke recently at the NHL’s media day in Las Vegas, where he was asked about potentially playing with his eldest brother.
“This is the headline question, you know?’’ Jack Hughes said to The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun when asked about the possibility of playing with Quinn.
“Honestly, I’m not afraid to say it. Yeah, I would love for Quinn to — eventually I’d love to play with him. And whether that’s in New Jersey or at what time that takes, at some point, I want to play with Quinn.”
“But yeah, that’s the question going around. They talk all day about it up in Vancouver, you know? But yeah, I’d love to play with Quinn at some point.”
I asked Jack Hughes about whether he talks to his brother Quinn about his future and possibly playing together.
“This is the headline question, you know?,’’ Jack smiled back.

He didn’t specifically allude to the fact that he wanted Quinn to join him and his younger brother, Luke, in New Jersey.
This has been a major talking point among Vancouver Canucks fans ever since Jim Rutherford made the comment last April about Quinn Hughes’ desire to play with his brothers at some point in his career.
The concern among Canucks fans is fair, especially after they missed the playoffs by six points last season in spite of the heroics from captain Quinn Hughes.
If the Canucks want to quell this storyline, they will need to start winning in a hurry. A subpar season from the New Jersey Devils would also help.
However, the recent report on Luke Hughes and his contract stalemate has perhaps given Canucks fans a sliver of hope that all Hughes brothers want to enter unrestricted free agency together in 2030.
Canucks fans could also cling to the photo that Jack posted on social media after Quinn was drafted by the Canucks in 2018.

Quinn Hughes recently took the high road when asked about his contract situation publicly. His brother Jack, however, has decided to pour a little more gasoline on this storyline.
Like Jack, Quinn is also in Las Vegas at the NHL’s media day; however, he has yet to comment on the recent quotes from his brother.
