This New West restaurant has 25 kinds of pierogies on the menu (PHOTOS)
There’s frozen, pre-packaged grocery store pierogies, and then there’s Iwona Pierogies.
Iwona Pierogies serves fresh, handmade, and stuffed Polish dumplings out of a quaint 20-seat eatery on New West’s 20th street – and we can confidently say these pierogies reign supreme in terms of tenderness, flavour, and addictiveness.

Iwona’s is a true hidden gem. It has a small menu of traditional Polish eats and a handful of daily drink specials, along with cabbage rolls, $5 salads (chick pea, potato, green, beet, carrot), $5 soups (red borscht, barley, cabbage, pea, tomato), sausages, and ratatouille along with sides like sour cream, onion, and bacon.
While the menu may be small, the variety of pierogies here is big – 25 varieties different kinds big.
Not all 25 are offered at once; there is a rotation that switches things up depending on the day, but that just gives you more reason to return for round two.

In terms of price and combos, Iwona’s is super reasonable – they offer eight pierogies for $11 and $15 meal combos which include deals like two cabbage rolls, soup, and a salad; four pierogies, a cabbage roll, and a sausage; six pierogies with potato salad; and lastly, two cabbage rolls, ratatouille, and a sausage.
You can get the pierogies to-go, or dine in – we recommend sitting down if you have time, because the cozy and warm atmosphere in Iwona’s is like that of your precious little nana’s house (or what you’d imagine it to be if you had a precious little nana, anyways).
With super comfy cushioned wicker chairs, woven tablecloths, and knick knacks like a miniature replica of a tall ship, vintage European tapestries, and a China cabinet displaying figurines and dish ware, there is no shortage of interesting objects to inspect as you wait for your authentic Polish eats.
The whole experience is charming and refreshing, not to mention eating here is more like going to a friend’s house for dinner than being seated at a restaurant, easily making Iwona’s a must-hit if you’re in or around Metro Vancouver.
Iwona Pierogies is open Tuesday to Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm, and Sunday from noon to 8 pm.
