The lyrical mastermind Tech N9ne was recently in Vancouver to perform tracks off his new album Special Effects. Since the passing of his mom last year, Tech’s music went to an even darker and more vulnerable place. He rapped about the anger he felt towards God after her death, the plight of the world, and the resentment he feels towards the misguided actions of others.
“I spit out everything I felt,” he said. “I was really angry with people’s evilness and was dealing with my confusion about my mom, about why she was so tormented.”
The Strange Music mogul added that he wanted this album to transport him and his listeners to “new levels of musical expression.”
It’s safe to say that Special Effects does just that, from dishing out lyrics at superspeeds in a song with Eminem, “Speedum,” to showing us at that he can still pump out party tracks with “Hood Go Crazy,” featuring 2 Chainz and B.o.B.
VancityBuzz caught up with Tech N9ne before his concert at Vogue Theatre to chat about his new album and who he wants to work with next.
