Interesting Vancouver 2015 lineup

Dec 20 2017, 1:37 am

Earlier this month the 8th consecutive edition of Interesting Vancouver announced its lineup of speakers. The focus is not on bringing in famous people, but rather every day people with interesting life stories.

Confirmed speakers for the Interesting Vancouver 2015 lineup include:

• an immigrant whose life was saved by teaching herself taxidermy
• a lawyer turned children’s author and illustrator who now works in a galaxy far, far away
• a third generation beekeeper exploring the delicate art of infusing honey with Scotch
• a 13 year old locavore who already cooks better than most professional chefs
• an international champion pinball wizard who lives with autism
• an Asian illustrator who moonlights as an Elvis tribute artist
• plus musical performances, food, drinks, and more!

More than another “sage on the stage” lecture series, Interesting Vancouver celebrates the uncelebrated to expand the collective vision of what is uniquely possible in Vancouver and done by Vancouverites. The aim is to connect and cross-pollinate creative minds across any and all disciplines.

The Interesting Vancouver Prize, a gorgeous engraved wood memento along with $1000 cash, will be awarded annually to a citizen of Metro Vancouver with a passion, hobby or action worth celebrating. This one-of-a-kind award is salvaged from a local wind-fallen tree, milled locally, specially cured to retain its bark edge, and then customized.

“We are surrounded by interesting things we have yet to discover,” explains Interesting Vancouver producer Mark Busse. “By stepping outside our everyday routines and boundaries and interacting with people from different disciplines, we are able to approach these subjects with fresh eyes and learn.”

Interesting Vancouver gatherings are casual and relaxed, with a low cost structure ensuring affordability. The evening will kick off with a gathering of audience and speakers, igniting conversational sparks. Over the evening, carefully curated speakers from Metro Vancouver’s diverse community will speak for 10 minutes about something they care deeply about, followed by an engaging dialogue with the audience.

“Interesting Vancouver features people like you and I that might seem like ordinary people, but when you look inside their lives and experience their unique layers you’ll be surprised and mesmerized,” says Annika Reinhardt, Interesting Vancouver participant and the founder of DinnerPartyYVR. “Their energy might even inspire you to take action with them and learn how to create something fascinating on your own.”
