Star Wars' Industrial Light & Magic Vancouver studio to expand, become permanent

Industrial Light & Magic is expanding its Vancouver studio and designating it as a permanent satellite office to its San Francisco headquarters.

According to Variety, the visual effects studio that was founded by George Lucas and responsible for the Star Wars franchise is undergoing a worldwide expansion that include making its Vancouver studio permanent with a workforce of 200 comprised of mainly artists.

All positions at the Vancouver studio will be new, none of the positions will be relocations from other offices. Industrial Light & Magic plans to open its new, expanded space at Gastown this month and it will produce visuals for the upcoming J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars films, World of WarcraftTransformers: Age of Extinction and the remake of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

The studio is also opening another London office which will also be manned by 200 artists. The company, now owned by Disney, is taking advantage of British Columbia and the United Kingdom’s tax credits as well as the wealth of experienced local talent.
