Over the last few months, petty thieves have raided North Shore Rescue’s equipment caches on four separate occasions, with two happening in just the past week.
The volunteer-run organization estimates the cost of those thefts to be close to $30,000, leaving NSR in a difficult position trying to replace their stolen and vandalized gear.
But luckily, just like for those who NSR rescue, help is on the way.
An Indiegogo campaign has been created by local radio hosts Nat, Drew, Erin and Scooter of The Nat and Drew Show to raise the $30,000 needed to replace the missing and damaged equipment. So far, after only a few hours of funding, $480 has been raised but there’s still a long way to go before their goal is reached.
Each year, North Shore Rescue performs approximately 90 search and rescue operations locally, while being run entirely by volunteers who all have day jobs. While RCMP hope that forensic evidence will lead them to the thieves and the missing gear, there’s no guarantee NSR will get what was stolen returned to them.
Donations can be made here via the campaign’s indiegogo page.
