June and July went by in about three seconds and September is lurking around the corner, waiting to bring us back to reality. But you can ease your way back into the daily grind by signing up to laugh.

Yes, laugh.

At the Improv Comedy Institute (Vancouver TheatreSports’ educational division), you can take classes that will leave you with an ache in your stomach from laughing.

Check out these four classes that will make you actually want to go back to school this fall.

Spontaneity (Improv for Beginners)

Are you looking to step out of your comfort zone, work on your public speaking skills, meet new friends, laugh (a lot), reduce your anxiety, or simply learn improv? If you said yes to any of those, this class is for you – but don’t wait too long to register as these always sell out.

Drop-In Improv

Are you hesitant to commit your time and money to classes before knowing what you’re getting yourself in to? Saturday Drop-In classes are the perfect solution. Every Saturday at the False Creek Community Centre on Granville Island, Improv Comedy Institute holds a two-hour Drop-In Improv class for only $20. No need to sign up in advance, just show up.

Scene Study

This is a scene study class for people who are serious about becoming better actors. This class is taught by Graeme Duffy, who’s a busy working actor and a very experienced and supportive coach. During each class, students will be held to high levels of professionalism.

Sketch

If your dream is to write or act for SNL, this might be the program for you. This program is open to writers and performers interested in writing and/or performing sketch comedy. Performance is encouraged but not mandatory. This seven-week evening class will incorporate a collaborative writer’s room atmosphere where students will pitch, write, and re-write sketches together.
