A Vancouver man left police officers dumbfounded after a strange series of events resulted in him being arrested twice in the span of two hours.
Port Moody Police Department were called to a disturbance on Sunday, Feb. 23, around 1:45 a.m. as a wedding was winding down in the Moody Centre area.
An intoxicated man had indicated that he was going to drive home, so Good Samaritans at the scene took away his keys.
“After his keys were taken away, the man became agitated, causing a disturbance and triggering the call to police,” said Const. Sam Zacharias of the Port Moody Police in a release. “Attending officers arrested the man at scene for Breach of Peace as a preventative measure then transported him home to his Vancouver residence with the understanding he would retrieve his parked vehicle much later once sober.”

About two hours later, officers spotted a vehicle excessively speeding at 123 km/h in front of the Port Moody Police Headquarters around 3:50 a.m. The department’s HQ is located in the 3000 block of St. Johns Street, which is a posted 50 km/h corridor.
“The vehicle was stopped, and the driver was determined to be the same impaired man who had been transported home by police hours earlier,” explained Zacharias. “He told officers he used a rideshare to get back to Port Moody to drive his vehicle home.”
