For one night only, Illuminate Yaletown is returning to Vancouver

Feb 7 2019, 6:46 am

Vancouver is no stranger to night festivals, light installations, and art shows — particularly during the holiday season. But even though the holiday season has long come to a close, it doesn’t mean you have to say goodbye to the fun and festivities.

This March, Yaletown is set to be lit up with a variety of light installations for Illuminate Yaletown, which has drawn crowds of more than 40,000 in past years.

In celebration of their 10-year reunion, the free outdoor light-art exhibition will be set up for one night only and you seriously won’t want to miss this.

The first Illuminate was held in 2009, featuring over 30 light installations — and this year’s event is sure to be another outstanding street-party where technology meets art.

With light-based art exhibitions utilizing advanced video and lighting technology, the night will feature a reunion of the best light artists and technology gurus from previous Illuminate events in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

Visitors can look forward to seeing outdoor projections, animations, and interactive forms, in the “best of the best”, showcasing some of Canada’s most renowned light-tech artists. Together with a selection of fan favourites from previous years on display, you’ll also see brand-new, never before seen installations.

And of course, everyone knows that Yaletown is the best place in town for happy hour drink deals, so this night is no exception. Be sure to drop by participating restaurants in Yaletown for special “6:06” Illuminate Cocktails on the night.

Illuminate Yaletown will commence at precisely 6:06 pm, the time when the sun will set over Vancouver. Grab your friends, bond over some drinks, take a walk through the streets of Yaletown, and enjoy the festivities for one night only.
