The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC) has been activated after a crash that killed a pedestrian on Saturday.

On September 14 at approximately 10:34 pm, members of the Surrey RCMP responded to a collision at the intersection of 152 Street and 56 Avenue.

According to a police report, a pedestrian was struck by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency services attended the scene but pronounced the male victim deceased.

The day after the crash, RCMP also determined that the man who was struck had been released from police custody shortly before the collision.

IIO BC has since been activated and is investigating to determine what role, if any, police’s actions or inactions played into the death of the pedestrian.
