The incident occurred in Surrey’s Morgan Heights neighbourhood near 161 Street and 30 Avenue.
The victim was reportedly shot several times at his home at approximately 5 am on Wednesday.
Police have identified the victim as 24-year-old Gary Kang. They say he was known to police and believe his murder was tied to gang violence in the Lower Mainland.
“It is too early to offer a motive behind this morning’s shooting but given what we know of Kang’s history with gang activity, we will be engaging with our gang enforcement partners,” Sgt. Frank Jang said.
About 40 minutes after the shooting, police responded to a car fire in Langley near 229 Street and 78A Avenue. They’re working to determine if it’s linked to Kang’s shooting, and are asking anyone with dash cam video from the area to get in touch.
