Police say that one man is dead after a fatal early morning shooting that took place in South Surrey.

On Friday morning, at approximately 12:32 am, members of the Surrey RCMP responded to a reported altercation in the 1600 blocks of 160 street.

Upon arrival, police officers say they found an adult suffering from gun wounds.

“Despite all attempts to revive the individual, the victim succumbed to their injuries,” Surrey RCMP said in an emailed statement.

It’s also believed that the parties involved are known to one another and that at this time, there’s no risk to public safety.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has been activated and is working with Surrey RCMP’s Major Crime Section.

While police are gathering evidence, traffic will be affected with 160 Street shut down in both directions between 16th Avenue and Alter Place until further notice.
