The Stanley Cup was awarded just a couple of days ago, but the Carolina Hurricanes appear to have already damaged the prized trophy.
After defeating the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 to win the championship, the Hurricanes are embarking on a massive party to celebrate the victory. This is nothing new around the NHL, as the trophy is paraded around by the winning team every single summer.
It appears Carolina got a bit rowdy with the Cup after bringing it back to Raleigh to party at a local bar called Teets.

If you look closely, the bowl part of the Stanley Cup seems to be warped with a few dents.
The Hurricanes have not been shy about parading around their first Stanley Cup since 2006. Apart from bringing it back to Carolina to celebrate with their fans, they also opted to bring it out for a night in Vegas shortly after winning.

Before that, head coach Rod Brind’Amour went viral for his manhandling of the Stanley Cup, throwing it up in the air before hoisting it.
It was certainly an impressive, yet anxiety-inducing, move from the veteran coach.

So, what does this mean for the storied trophy?
Luckily, this shouldn’t be a big deal for hockey’s biggest prize, as it has endured quite a bit of damage over the course of its existence. Just last season, the Florida Panthers cracked the bowl and dented the bottom.
The responsibility to get the Stanley Cup back into working condition is up to the Keepers of the Cup, who will have the resources and experience to make the proper repairs to the 37-pound trophy.
With how rowdy hockey players get after winning, a few dents here and there should be nothing new for the Stanley Cup.
