So the BC Lions weren’t as dominating as the previous week against the Alouettes, but give credit to Toronto who came to play and made it a tougher game for the Lions. It definitely wasn’t the start to finish effort we saw the week before against Montreal, but a win is a win. It doesn’t matter how you win, just make sure you win, and that is what the Lions did on Saturday afternoon at BC Place. The Lions wanted to display the BC Lion Air show presented by Travis Lulay early and often, the only problem was, it took them a little while to get in sync. The offence was moving the ball, but turnovers killed the drives that were looking good. A different story could be told for the defence though.
After holding the Argos offence scoreless in the first half, the Argos only scored off an early Harris fumble. As most coaches would point out, good teams know how to win, and it seems as if this veteran know how to step it up a little more when the intensity levels reaches higher than the Shangri-La hotel.
Geroy Simon made his grand return to the lineup after sitting out the following week with a groin injury. Simon ended a nine game drought of going without a 100 yard game. It was definitely good to see Simon play like he should be playing; it was weird not seeing him step up a little more lately. Shawn Gore also had a big game with three catches for 96 yards, and a huge touchdown for the Lions.
Travis Lulay reminds me of Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers, the confidence and consistent play that this boy has is unbelievable. Yes he did throw an interception in the game, but 22 games in a row Travis Lulay has thrown a touchdown pass only 12 behind Sam Etcheverry for the CFL record. His leadership is out of this world, he always holds himself accountable and you NEVER ever see Lulay get angry. If Simon or Gore drops a pass, the next play, he’s throwing it right back to them. Travis Lulay is definitely a player I would want on my team, and I hope he stays a Lion for many years to come.
