How much rain will it take to replenish Vancouver's reservoirs?

With some light showers hitting Metro Vancouver and some possible rain in the forecast for the weekend, just how many consistent days of wet weather would we need to replenish our reservoirs?

Reservoir levels for the city are at 69 per cent as of July 19, well below what is considered the normal range. Darrell Mussatto with Metro Vancouver told Vancity Buzz that we would need at least 150 millimetres of rain to get our reservoirs back to 100%.

That represents about two solid months of consecutive rain.

“This rain today, while it’s very welcome, it’s nowhere near what we need to change our stage level,” Mussatto said.

Metro Vancouver recently instituted stage three water restrictions which, among other things, forbids the watering of lawns completely for residential neighbourhoods.

And now people are taking to social media to “drought shame” their neighbours whose lawns look too green and healthy.

If caught, the fine for watering your lawn is $250.
