Elderly couple fall from houseboat into Fraser River in Ladner, man still missing

The search has resumed this morning for one of two people who fell from a houseboat near Westham Island in Delta.

According to reporters at the scene on the Fraser River in Ladner, an elderly woman fell from the float home Sunday night, and her 71-year-old husband went in to rescue her.

The woman was pulled from the water after a two-hour search, and is in hospital in stable condition, however the man is still missing.

“Police and the coast guard took part in the probe,” Sunday night, according to the Canadian Press, as published in the Sun.

The search for the man resumed Monday morning around 8 a.m. and Delta Police are on scene speaking with neighbours.

UPDATE: A body found Monday afternoon near the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal has been identified as that of the 74-year-old man who tried to rescue his wife after she fell from their Ladner houseboat into the Fraser River, according to Delta Police. Everett McGowin operated O.K. Boot Corral in Gastown, family members said, reports CBC Vancouver. The B.C. Coroners’ Service has taken over the investigation.
