Horgan flashes Star Trek salute during cabinet swearing-in ceremony
BC Premier John Horgan’s fingers formed the iconic Vulcan salute from the popular Star Trek TV series during his swearing-in ceremony Thursday.
The “live long and prosper” hand signal marked by the index and middle finger forming a V with the ring and pinky finger was popularized by Star Trek character Mr. Spock in the 1960s.
Horgan is a known Trekkie — he’s even sported the badge to work before.

When a reporter asked him a question about the Vulcan salute after, Horgan said he didn’t even realize he’d done it until after the ceremony.
“I didn’t mean any disrespect,” he said. “I wasn’t sending a signal to geeks everywhere, but that’s who I am.”
Horgan was accepting his second term as the province’s premier, and naming his cabinet ministers for the next four years.
