Winning team announced in 2019 Honda Celebration of Light
The winning country of the 2019 Honda Celebration of Light has been announced.
After more than a million festival-goers flooded the shores of English Bay, Second Beach, and Vanier Park, the three-day event concluded its 29th year running.
Every team had something different to offer: Team India based their performance on the theme of love, Canada looked to deliver a stunning performance with “feel good hits of the summer,” and Croatia also impressed with an epic cinema-based soundtrack.
It was also India and Croatia’s first time ever performing at the Celebration of Light.
In the end, Team Canada, represented by Firemaster Productions, was named the winner.
2019 marked the eighth time that the Port Robinson-based company represented Canada in the festival. The team, led by Sean Morris, president and lead designer of Firemaster Productions, produces over 100 shows per year, many within Ontario.
Many members of the team, including Morris himself, were also subcontracted to work on BC Place Stadium roof fireworks during the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
Competition judges note that while all three teams had high scores, “Team Canada delivered a ‘stand out’ synchronized show that ended with a fantastic finale.”
“Team Canada really used the barge and supplied equipment to their full potential, they pushed limits by mounting their products in new and exciting ways to fill the scenes from varied angles and even spelled out ‘HELLO’ in sparks,” said Kelly Guille, President of Archangel Fireworks Inc.
“They had a fun energy, and their tracks were uplifting. The competition was tough this year, it’s hard to believe that it was Team India’s first competition performance anywhere in the world, and team Croatia pulled big nostalgia and emotion from the crowd using popular movie soundtracks to back their massive spectacle.”

The People’s Choice winner, voted by the public through the festival’s app, is Team Croatia.
Dates for the 2020 Honda Celebration of Light will be announced in the fall.
