Homeless Partners Help Return the Voices Back to the Homeless

Dec 19 2017, 1:15 pm

Talk with a homeless person. Hear their story.

Each homeless person has a story associated with how their homelessness has arisen and the challenges of living on the streets. To hear their stories brings the humanity back to the homeless and releases the pre-conceived perceptions of what homelessness is and how it begins.

To help return the voices of the homeless to them, Homeless Partners is helping people connect personally and directly with individual homeless people in their city in a way that is safe and practical this Christmas. By interviewing countless of homeless participants across Canada and then posting their wish lists and stories on homelesspartners.com, they are encouraging you to read their stories and make a pledged gift.

By participating, you can build a connection and encourage strength and courage in the homeless community in order to help them move forward in their lives. With countless stories from happy recipients last year, the personalization really meant the world to them as shown in this particular testimonial:

Patrick, at Next Steps, has been clean and sober for a year and a half. He has struggled desperately with depression. He asked for some art studio space, which was granted, for 3 months. The space just happens to be next to The Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria, in the Cedar Hills Recreation Centre so there is hope that he will not only have a great space to work but have the opportunity to become involved with the arts community for continued work.

Homeless Partners is also making December 19, 2014, Canada’s first Pledge Day to help the homeless. This year, they are asking the communities from across Canada to participate in an online campaign that takes place on December 19th. Join this simple act of awareness by tweeting #PledgeDay2014 and sharing how you’re making a difference in your community.

Vancity Buzz is proud to sponsor Homeless Partners.
