Vancouver Police convene in West End for violent home invasion robbery

UPDATE at 5:28 p.m. – Davie Street has reopened to traffic, however, Vancouver Police are still attempting to find the suspect.

Police say they were called to the apartment building at Davie and Denman Street at around 3:30 p.m. A man with a gun had forced his way into a suite.

One of the residents fled to the nearby Boathouse Restaurant to call 9-1-1, while a second man jumped off from the third story balcony to escape the apartment unit. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

There were two additional victims, one man and one woman, inside the building, but they were not injured.

Police searched the building and determined that the suspect had left before police arrived.

Two of the victims, both men in their 20s, are known to police and appear to have been targeted. The investigation is ongoing.

EARLIER at 4:12 p.m. – Authorities are at the scene at Davie Street near Bidwell Street in the West End to investigate a violent home invasion robbery.

People in the area are reporting a significant police presence. A police helicopter is circling the neighbourhood and at least two ambulances have also arrived on site.

There are reports that one person fell off the third floor balcony and police are searching for the suspect who might still be in the building. One resident of the unit that was broken into escaped to the Boathouse Restaurant, located down the block, for refuge.

Transit buses are being rerouted as the 1700 block of Davie Street is closed to traffic.
